Copycat Kudos Bars: Classic, Peanut Butter & Macro-Friendly

If you grew up in the ’90s or early 2000s, there’s a good chance you remember Kudos bars.

I grew up eating these, and they were one of those snacks that felt like such a treat. Crispy cereal, chewy oats, chocolate on the bottom, chocolate drizzled over the top — and of course the M&M version was always a favorite.

Since Kudos bars have become incredibly hard to find and are essentially a nostalgic memory at this point, I knew I wanted to recreate them at home. I started with a classic copycat version inspired by the original-style bars, then made a peanut butter version, and because you know I love finding ways to make my favorites fit my goals, I also created a macro-friendly version.

All three have that crispy, chewy, chocolatey Kudos vibe — just depending on whether you want the full nostalgic experience or something a little lighter.

Classic Copycat Kudos Bars

Makes 16 bars

Ingredients

  • Crispy rice cereal
  • Rolled oats
  • Brown sugar
  • Salted butter
  • Honey or agave
  • Light corn syrup
  • Chopped peanuts (optional)
  • Mini M&M’s
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • C0conut oil

Instructions

Combine the crispy rice cereal and oats in a large mixing bowl.

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar, butter, honey and corn syrup. Heat until melted and bubbling, then allow it to bubble for about 3–5 minutes.

Pour the warm mixture over the cereal and oats and stir until everything is thoroughly coated.

Press firmly into a parchment-lined 9×13-inch pan. Really pack it down — this helps the bars stay together.

Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before cutting into 16 bars.

Melt the chocolate chips with the coconut oil until smooth. Dip the bottoms of the bars into the chocolate, then place them on parchment paper.

Top with mini M&M’s and chopped peanuts (optioal) and drizzle with any remaining melted chocolate. Chill until the chocolate is set.

The original recipe yields 16 bars in a 9×13-inch pan.

Peanut Butter Kudos Bars

This one might be my favorite if you love that chocolate + peanut butter combination.

Use the same classic recipe above, but add:

¾ cup Teddie’s peanut butter

Stir the peanut butter into the warm butter, honey, brown sugar and corn syrup mixture until completely smooth before pouring it over the cereal and oats.

Then proceed with the recipe as written.

Macro-Friendly Kudos Bars

This version keeps the crispy cereal, chewy oats, M&M’s and chocolate coating, but lightens up several of the more calorie-dense ingredients.

Makes 16 bars

Ingredients

  • Crispy rice cereal
  • Rolled oats
  • Light butter
  • Sugar-free pancake syrup
  • Honey or agave
  • Brown sugar substitute
  • PBfit
  • Water, as needed to mix with PBfit
  • Mini M&M’s
  • No-sugar-added dark chocolate chips
  • Coconut oil

Instructions

Combine the crispy rice cereal and rolled oats in a large bowl.

Mix the PBfit with just enough water to create a smooth peanut-butter consistency.

In a saucepan, combine the light butter, sugar-free pancake syrup, honey and brown sugar substitute. Heat over medium-low heat until everything is melted and smooth.

Stir in the prepared PBfit.

Pour the warm mixture over the cereal and oats and stir thoroughly, making sure everything gets coated.

Press very firmly into a parchment-lined 9×13-inch pan. Refrigerate until completely set, then cut into 16 bars.

Melt the no-sugar-added chocolate chips with 1 teaspoon coconut oil. Dip the bottoms of the bars into the chocolate or spread a thin layer over the bottoms.

Sprinkle with the mini M&M’s and drizzle with any remaining chocolate.

Chill until set.

Estimated macros — per bar

124 calories | 3g protein | 20g carbs | 5g fat

That means you’re getting the nostalgic Kudos-bar experience for well under half the calories of the classic version.
