Loaded Tuna Protein Bowl

Loaded Tuna Protein Bowl

** MACROS ARE A TAD DIFFERENT FOR THE BOWL ABOVE, I ADDED AVOCADO TO THIS ONE**

If you know me, you know I LOVE a massive portion of food, and this bowl absolutely delivers.

This Loaded Protein Tuna Bowl is packed with fresh, crunchy veggies, tons of protein, and so much volume for under 400 calories. The entire recipe is technically ONE serving, and yes, I have absolutely eaten the whole thing for one meal. ๐Ÿ˜‚

But it is MASSIVE, so you can easily split it into two portions if youโ€™d rather. Some days I enjoy the whole bowl at once, and other days I divide it up and basically have two lunches ready to go. Itโ€™s completely up to you!

Macros for the ENTIRE Massive Bowl

387 calories
63g protein
21g carbs
2g fat

That is a LOT of food and 63 grams of protein for under 400 calories!

What’s In My Loaded Protein Tuna Bowl?

For this bowl I use:

  • English cucumber, sliced super thin
  • Shredded carrots
  • Thinly sliced red onion
  • Thinly sliced scallions
  • Shredded iceberg lettuce
  • Frozen peas, defrosted
  • Safe Catch Tuna

I like slicing my cucumber really thin with a mandolin because it gives the entire bowl that amazing crunchy, almost deli-style salad texture.

And don’t sleep on the frozen peas! I personally use frozen peas and simply let them defrost. They’re easy to keep on hand and add a little sweetness and texture that works so well with the tuna and crunchy vegetables.

Why I Love These Ingredients

Besides being delicious together, every ingredient brings something different to this bowl.

English cucumbers add tons of fresh crunch and volume while also providing hydration since cucumbers have such a high water content.

Carrots bring natural sweetness, color, fiber, and nutrients including beta-carotene, which the body can convert to vitamin A.

Red onion adds that little bite that makes a simple salad taste so much more flavorful. Onions also contain naturally occurring plant compounds and antioxidants.

Scallions give you a fresh onion flavor without overpowering the rest of the bowl. They’re one of my favorite ways to add a ton of flavor for very few calories.

Iceberg lettuce is what really helps make this bowl MASSIVE. It adds so much crunch and volume without adding a ton of calories, which is something I absolutely love when I’m building meals.

Peas add fiber, carbohydrates, a little additional protein, sweetness, and such a great texture.

And then we have the star of the show: Safe Catch Tuna. Tuna is an easy way to pack a serious amount of lean protein into a meal. Protein can help support muscle maintenance and recovery while also making meals much more satisfying.

Put everything together and you’ve got a giant bowl filled with protein, fiber, fresh vegetables, crunch, and volume.

My Favorite Way to Finish It

You know what I love all over this?

Yellow mustard.

I drizzle yellow mustard ALL over the top and mix everything together. It’s tangy, flavorful, ridiculously simple, and gives me exactly what I want without needing a heavy dressing.

I personally do not include the yellow mustard in the macros listed above, but if you’re tracking very precisely, you can absolutely measure your mustard and include it in your own numbers.

A Quick Note About Weighing Your Ingredients

If you’re following a macro-based or calorie-counting lifestyle, I highly recommend weighing your ingredients whenever possible.

Measuring cups and estimating portions can definitely work, but weighing food with a kitchen scale is going to give you the most accurate informationโ€”especially when you’re trying to consistently hit specific calorie, protein, carbohydrate, or fat goals.

It takes just a few extra seconds, and once you get used to doing it, it becomes second nature.

And remember: you don’t have to eat tiny portions to stay within your goals.

Sometimes you just need to build your meals a little differently.

This massive crunchy tuna bowl is proof that you can have a HUGE, satisfying meal packed with protein and fresh ingredients for only 387 calories and 63 grams of protein.

Eat the entire thing, split it into two lunches, drizzle on that yellow mustard, and ENJOY!
